The cover design for a booklet being produced by our college to showcase work done by 7th Semester students. I myself am not in the 7th sem yet, but I had no other work to do, so I was asked to work on this :|

This was all very sudden so it went from concept to final solution in less than a day. Total time taken is probably around 3 hours.

Booklet size = A4

1/320 sec | f/8.0 | 55mm | ISO 100
4 x Prolinchrom Studio Flash
1 cheap Staedtler pencil :P

I have a problem with the hand a little bit. Either should have had more of it (total fist signifying something more emphatic) or the whole position of the hand should have been different, maybe subtle. Font use in "Project Booklet" is neat, corporate. I am a fan. The '2008' comes out a little weak though. Maybe should have gone for a "08" in a sans serif font, big, low opacity.

I agree with you about the photograph, but unfortunately my equipment was limited and I did not have any lenses which would be fast enough to give me sufficient bokeh while keeping only the fist and pencil in focus from farther away, hence the tighter framing. All the lenses our college has have similar sized max apertures, so decided to go with the 18-55mm kit lens at f/6.3 @ 55mm :|

Thanks for the suggestion about the font. It would probably be better with some other treatment for the 2008 part, but definitely not the large translucent type. I find it to be overdone to the point where it's lost all of the impact it might have had when it was not so common :)
